HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College softball program made history this week with three Red Hawks being named to the 2026 All-Region 10 First Team, marking the first time in program history that three players have earned first‑team recognition in the same season.
Red Hawk shortstop Gionna Merhtens, outfielder Samantha Gregory and pitcher Reagan Garrett each received first‑team honors following standout seasons that helped lead CVCC on both sides of the ball.
Merhtens, a sophomore from Escondido, Calif., turned in one of the region's most productive offensive campaigns. The Norfolk State signee hit .408 with 51 hits, 9 home runs, 28 RBIs, 35 runs scored and a .680 slugging percentag across 38 games. The selection marks Merhtens' second career All‑Region honor.
A freshman from Wellington, Fla., Gregory made an immediate impact in her debut season. She posted a .276 average with 27 hits, six doubles, six home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 36 games. She elevated her performance in conference play, hitting .417 with 14 RBIs.
Garrett, a sophomore from Lyman, S.C., anchored the Red Hawks' pitching staff. She appeared in 22 games with 16 starts, recording seven wins, 104.1 innings pitched, 57 strikeouts and a 3.89 ERA.
