Adams’ late free throws push Red Hawks past Panthers

HICKORY, N.C. — A pair of free throws by Jordyn Adams with 13.1 seconds remaining helped lift the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team to a 76-73 victory against Denmark Tech at the Tarlton Complex.

The match up between the Red Hawks and Panthers was their first since Jan. 20, 2015.

Adams led the Red Hawks (3-2) with 24 points, while Ja'Nya Wiley added 22 points.

The Red Hawks trailed 21-19 after the first quarter, but worked their way to a 35-34 halftime lead.

A big 21-point third quarter helped Catawba Valley extend its lead, and despite being outscored by five points in the final stanza, the Red Hawks held off the potential Panthers comeback for the three-point non-conference win.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to the action on Tuesday for a home conference contest against Guilford Tech. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex. Admission is $10, and CVCC students, faculty and staff are admitted free with ID.
