HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team erupted for seven runs across the first two innings and never looked back on Wednesday night, rolling past Caldwell CCT&I 15–5 in eight innings at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The Red Hawks tallied 11 hits highlighted by a seven-RBI performance from catcher Lucas Dawson, including a three‑run homer in the fourth inning. Pierce Bouwman added a solo shot in the third inning, and Alex Robinson (three) and Brady Byler (two) each delivered multi‑RBI games.
CVCC opened Wednesday's non-conference game with a three‑run first inning, sparked by Robinson's two‑run double and Dawson's RBI groundout.
After Caldwell briefly tied the game 3–3 in the bottom half of the first inning, the Red Hawks answered with a four‑run second inning fueled by Dawson's two‑run single.
Bouwman's homer in the third inning and Dawson's three‑run blast in the fourth inning pushed the lead to 11–5. Byler's two‑run single in the eighth inning capped a four‑run frame.
On the mound, Braiden Moore earned the win, and the CVCC bullpen combined for 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits while striking out eight batters.
The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team starts a 10-game home stand this weekend beginning with a three-game home conference series against Southwest Virginia Community College at Henkel-Alley Field.
The Red Hawks and Eagles play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. before finishing the series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game at noon.
