Red Hawks take weekend series over Patrick & Henry

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team claimed its second home conference series win of the season this past Saturday and Sunday, taking two of three games from Patrick & Henry at Henkel-Alley Field at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.

Game 1: Patrick & Henry 9, CVCC 2

Patrick & Henry used a five‑run ninth inning to pull away in Saturday's opener against the Red Hawks.

CVCC both of its runs in the seventh inning on RBI hits from Broden Thompson and Brody Taylor. Jacob Krebs and Isaiah McDowell each had two hits for Catawba Valley, which was outhit 13-9 in the first game.

Game 2: CVCC 9, Patrick & Henry 8

The Red Hawks responded in Saturday's doubleheader finale with a dramatic comeback win. CVCC built a 6–0 lead through four innings behind a three‑run homer from Matthew Perez and a two‑run double from Lucas Dawson.

Patrick & Henry stormed back with five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to tie the game, but CVCC answered in the bottom half of the seventh when Ryan Zych scored the go‑ahead run. Pierce Bouwman closed the door in relief to earn the win.

Game 3: CVCC 10, Patrick & Henry 4

CVCC capped the series on Sunday with its most complete performance, using a four‑run fifth and a four‑run eighth to secure the win. Bouwman delivered a standout day at the plate, going 2‑for‑5 with a grand slam and four RBI. Perez added a solo homer, and Alex Robinson drove in two.

Tony Lopez struck out 11 over six innings to earn the victory. Patrick & Henry cut its deficit to 5–3 in the seventh, but the Red Hawks' late surge put the game out of reach.

Winners of eight of its last nine games, the Catawba Valley Community College baseball team returns to action on Tuesday for a home contest against USC Sumter. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.
