SHELBY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team capitalized on 17 hits to earn a 10–8 road win over Cleveland Community College on Wednesday.
The Red Hawks were led at the plate by Lucas Dawson, who finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs, providing the middle-of-the-order punch that kept CVCC in control throughout the contest. Sylas Mills also turned in a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Jacob Krebs added a 3-for-6 day with two runs scored.
Catawba Valley jumped on the scoreboard early. Isaiah McDowell homered, drove in a run and scored twice, and Alex Robinson chipped in two RBIs. Pierce Bouwman added an RBI double, and CVCC finished with five extra-base hits, including three home runs, on the afternoon.
On the mound, Cole Bowie gave the Red Hawks a strong start, allowing just two runs over 4.1 innings while striking out five. Drew Bryant earned the win in relief, and the CVCC bullpen combined to limit damage down the stretch. Lane Essary closed the door with a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the win.
The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team returns to action on Wednesday when it once again travels to Shelby to take on Cleveland. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
