Red Hawk bats erupt in 15-5 win against Cleveland

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team overpowered visiting Cleveland Community College on Wednesday night  to secure a 15-5 victory in six innings at Henkel-Alley Field.

The Red Hawks (31-17, 23-6 in Region 10) tallied 14 hits and launched three home runs in their midweek win against the Yetis.

Designated hitter Brody Taylor sparked the early surge for CVCC, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Shortstop Pierce Bouwman delivered one of the night's biggest swings—a three-run homer as part of a five-run second inning that put CVCC firmly in command.

Red Hawk first baseman Sylas Mills added a towering three-run blast of his own and finished with three RBI, three runs scored and a triple. Catcher Lucas Dawson rounded out the Red Hawks' power display with a solo home run and three RBI.

Every spot in the CVCC lineup contributed, including Tanner Brewer, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Josh Meadows, who added an RBI single and scored twice.

CVCC right-hander Tony Lopez earned the win, working 4.2 innings with four strikeouts. Reliever Drew Bryant closed the door with 1.1 scoreless innings and a strikeout.

The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team returns to action this weekend for a three-game Region 10 set against Louisburg Community College at Henkel-Alley Field. The Red Hawks and Hurricanes play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
