HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley men's basketball team rolled past Southwest Virginia 115–91 on Friday night at the Tarlton Complex, closing the regular season with one of its highest offensive outputs of the year.
The Red Hawks built a 58-42 halftime lead behind hot shooting and a deep bench that overwhelmed the Flying Eagles. Catawba Valley shot 54 percent from the field and finished with 50 rebounds and 26 assists.
Caden Caskey scored a team-high 18 points for CVCC. TJay Mills added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while KJ Burke scored 15 and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free‑throw line. Brennan Oldham chipped in 10 points off the bench, and Levi Robinson and Nakeem Isaac each scored nine points.
Forward Josh Moore anchored the interior with eight points and 12 rebounds, helping CVCC control the glass, 50-32.
Catawba Valley used an 18–6 run midway through the first half to create separation and never trailed after the opening minutes. The Red Hawks' bench contributed 61 points, including 18 from Caskey and nine from Robinson.
Southwest Virginia scored 42 points before halftime and 49 in the second half but couldn't slow CVCC's pace or perimeter shooting. Catawba Valley outscored Southwest Virginia 57-49 after the break to seal the win.
The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team starts postseason play next week in the Region 10 tournament, which takes place at Wake Tech Community College. The Red Hawks will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
